Brechin Cathedral is currently without a minister due to the Revd Scott Rennie being translated to Queens Cross Church in Aberdeen.
The Revd Carleen Robertson is currently our Interim Moderator and Ian Gray is our Locum during the vacancy period.
Ian Robertson is Organist and Director of Music at the Cathedral. A chartered engineer by profession, he has had a keen interest in music since his early childhood in Dundee. He started the piano at Downfield Primary, and the bassoon at Kirkton High, eventually playing bassoon with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. His interest in the organ and church music began as a student in Edinburgh, and he was appointed to his first post as organist there in 1970. Since then he has held the post of Organist/Choir Director in various churches in Edinburgh, Dundee, Forfar and Montrose.
Ian retired from engineering in 2003 and now devotes most of his time to his interest in music. In addition to his work at the Cathedral, he spends much of his time teaching organ, piano and singing. He is also Secretary of the Tayside Organists' Society.
A native of Dundee, Ian lives in Inverbervie with his wife Alison, who is also a professional musician. Their four children, Fiona, Nicola, Jane and John all share the family interest in music. Other than music, Ian’s main interests are golf, gardening and cooking.
