Ian Robertson is Organist and Director of Music at the Cathedral. A chartered engineer by profession, he has had a keen interest in music since his early childhood in Dundee. He started the piano at Downfield Primary, and the bassoon at Kirkton High, eventually playing bassoon with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. His interest in the organ and church music began as a student in Edinburgh, and he was appointed to his first post as organist there in 1970. Since then he has held the post of Organist/Choir Director in various churches in Edinburgh, Dundee, Forfar and Montrose.
Ian retired from engineering in 2003 and now devotes most of his time to his interest in music. In addition to his work at the Cathedral, he spends much of his time teaching organ, piano and singing. He is also Secretary of the Tayside Organists' Society.
A native of Dundee, Ian lives in Inverbervie with his wife Alison, who is also a professional musician. Their four children, Fiona, Nicola, Jane and John all share the family interest in music. Other than music, Ian’s main interests are golf, gardening and cooking.
Mr Ian Gray's role is as Parish Assistant to the Esk Parish Grouping. Within the Cathedral Ian assists the Pastoral Team with many pastoral tasks, including funerals and visits. Ian has also been invaluable in providing cover for Roderick both pastorally and in worship during holidays and Study Leave.
Ian has now embarked on the OLM course and we wish him well in this new exciting endeavour.

Douglas Taylor is our Session Clerk. He brings a wealth of business knowledge with him and this has been fairly tested over the past year looking at schemes to halt the dry rot in our roof timbers. This has meant a great deal of work with specialist companies and all the 'hoops' to be jumped through with respect to procedures applicable to old and historic buildings.
